Monday 5 May: to Ledaig, near Oban
A very cold night. Simon is sleeping in his woolly hat and we’re both too cold to change sleeping positions so it’s quite a fitful night. However we wake to blue skies which is a bonus. We discover we have run out of gas and are not sure if our spare cylinder is full. The campsite has run out and I spend the first part of our journey investigating options around Glasgow. Nothing positive so we continue on our journey. Fairly busy motorways around Glasgow and then I take over as we enter the Trossocks. A glorious scenic drive along the edge of Loch Lomond but narrow and winding and so busy! We stop to walk to Kilchurn Castle and marvel at the stunning scenery as we approach Oban. Our campsite is just north at Ledaig and our pitch is right on the water’s edge with views over to Mull. We even get a gas cylinder! We cycle north on a designated cycle way that goes all the way to Fort William. We don’t! Back to base to look at the view and wait for the sun to set. I’m wearing virtually every layer and a woolly hat but it is very special.
